Finally, *insert dramatic music sting here* after 10 long years *additional dramatic sting* the game everyone has been waiting for *another dramatic sting* comes to consoles, soothing the thirst of all who waited ever so patiently. Marvel vs. Capcom *final dramatic sting*…. 3.
The greatest crossover game since Double Dragon and Battletoads has finally returned with its third installment. This game features not only some oldies but goodies (ie Wolverine, Ryu, Iron Man, and Chun Li) but some new characters as well (ie Dante, Deadpool, Super Skrull, and Zero).
The game play itself is different. Yes, all the favorites are there such as the triple team hyper combo but they added a little funk to some parts of the game. Now play players can tag out in the middle of an air combo so their partner can take it from there.
Unlike the second one but like the first one, this actually has a storyline…well an established storyline for each character as well as a nice little cinematic that gives some inkling of what’s going down. Each of the old characters have an HD touchup to their moves and there are some great ones from the new characters (Deadpool’s 4th wall crisis for example).
The controls are somewhat reminiscent of Tastunoko vs. Capcom. This isn’t a bad thing by any means but it definitely gives veteran players of the verses series somewhat of a learning curve. There is, however, an option to simplify the controls. Downside (kind of), some would say that it encourages button mashing.
The game modes are about the same except for mission mode, where players have to follow instructions to do certain moves for each character. It could be from do a beserker barrage to standing H, crouching L, crouching M, air M, air M, Fatal Claw.
What would a verses series be without some giant overpowered final boss? Galactus is honestly a bigger pain than Onslaught. Not only do you fight a silver copy of random characters, one vs. two, but his attacks are crazy. The developers had no problem portraying that Galactus was a really big and really powerful being that eats planets. Not to mention his weakest hyper combo is 30 hits. At least you only have to fight him once.
Overall, MvC 3 is a great game was definitely worth the wait. This game should be available anywhere where games are sold.
