Now that Lost is finally over, although it’ll never be over because now everyone’s watching it streaming on Netflix and all your jerky friends who were ‘too cool’ to watch TV when it was on are like ‘zomg have you seen Lost????’ and you’re like ‘welcome to 2004, shut up.’, anyway, now that it’s somewhat over, Matthew Fox is free to let his freak flag fly. And he wants the world to know that it sucks.
Matthew Fox hates acting. Yeah. Take that. He isn’t going to act anymore unless he has to. You know, this is what a lot of people say about jobs except they’re usually referring to, like, going to work at a fast food restaurant because they need to feed their families. Not deigning to take a multi-million dollar role in order to restore the manor house roof after a heavy storm.
In an interview with Live magazine. Fox tells Hollywood to take their leading man offers and shove them, because he also hates Hollywood and hates new movies and especially hates 3-D technology. Every weirdo who bought an Avatar calendar is irate right now. Seriously, who buys an Avatar calendar?
“Look at 3D. That’s a major setback to good storytelling. I took my little boy to see The Last Airbender. It was an awful film. The director M. Night Shyamalan hasn’t directed a good movie since The Sixth Sense.”
Oh, I’d be mad too if my child made me see The Last Airbender, and I agree with his hate against Shyamalan. And I agree that people are putting 3D technology way ahead of actually writing a movie to go with the effects. But I hate everything too so it’s not surprising that Fox and I have this in common.
“I’m disillusioned with the drift towards gratuitous entertainment, which so much of Hollywood is now. Because of the state of the economy people seem to want pure escapism. But if the roles I fight to get all go to Matt Damon, then I won’t work. I turn a lot of stuff down – big, big movies, the kind I wouldn’t want to go to the cinema to see.…Unless they reinvent the wheel in terms of romantic comedies – in other words, they start making them funny and romantic again – I’m not going to be starring in any of these movies… A lot of the time I hate acting. It has a lot to do with the way I was brought up in a world where showing your emotions is frowned upon. It’s just not manly.”
So. Matthew Fox hates everything. AND I LOVE MATTHEW FOX. I agree with him so, so hard on everything. He concludes,”There’s a possibility I’ll give up acting and do something altogether different. Become an astronomer, maybe.”
And the crush turns into adoration. Although I’m pretty sure that being an astronomer involves going to school and research and stuff, unless you’re the Talented Mr. Ripley. Aka MATT DAMON. AKA DUN DUN DUN WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO, Fox?
