Memphis is an energetic, confident, and happy girl, who currently lives at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.
Memphis is a 4-year-old, spayed female Pit Bull Terrier mix. She is pretty easygoing and tolerant; nothing really seems to bother her. While she is pretty laid back she does come alive for toys. She gets super excited in play and chases toys, shakes ’em, and doesn’t like to give ’em up unless you have another one to offer.
If you want to adopt her, get ready to buy her a nice, fluffy dog bed because she has fallen in love with the one in the AWLA evaluation room. She couldn’t get enough of it—cuddling and rolling around in it. She also likes to snuggle up in the staff offices for a good nap.
Memphis needs a home that can give her adequate daily exercise; she will need about 2 hours each day of activity to include walks and playtime. Pit Bull Terriers and mixes are high-energy breeds. Memphis is not suited for a home with children under 8 years of age, because her exuberant play may injure a younger child. Memphis is also best in a home without cats.
Generally, AWLA discourages Pit Bull adopters to visit dog parks. Their concern is that the group dynamic is always changing and excitement levels tend to run high. In the Pit Bull breed, when intensity builds, behavior that started as play may escalate to a fight. AWLA recommends that the adopter find a group of dogs whom are appropriate for their dog to socialize with and where the setting is more controlled with a good leader present to enforce rules of play.
Memphis is in good physical health! Pit Bulls are prone to skin sensitivities, so adopters may need to keep in mind that she would likely do best on a higher quality, hypo-allergenic diet. She has a short, shedding coat and will need brushing on a regular basis, bathing every few weeks, and routine nail clipping.
Staff and volunteers at AWLA have fallen for Memphis and think you will too! Come by AWLA to meet her today!
On Thursday, January 27 at 6PM, Dogma Bakery in Shirlington (2772 S. Arlington Mill Drive, Arlington) is having a special adoption event for Memphis and her friend Kane.
Memphis is ready to meet her new family!
Kudos to Dogma Bakery for helping these great dogs, who have been at the shelter a while, find permanent and loving homes.
If you are not quite ready to adopt, shop at Dogma Bakery anyway to thank them for helping this sweet dog find a home.
Also, while you’re waiting, make a donation to AWLA or find out about how to volunteer or become a foster.
