A recent “Metaphysics 101” column described humans as energy beings. The discussion of energy or spirit beings would not be complete without a nod to the common, household ghost. That’s right, ghosts are everywhere. There’s probably one watching you right now if you live in an old house or building.
The reason disembodied spirits are found in so many places is because our maker (God, the Universe, or whomever you acknowledge as the Almighty) gave us freedom of choice. Death isn’t the turnstile to heaven or hell that some people like to think it is. Death and its aftermath are much more complex. And (surprise!) not everyone is ready to leave this green Earth the moment they die.
In fact, some people (as spirits) hang out with us for generations — especially if they loved their homes and felt safe and protected inside those walls.
Cassandra O’Shaughnessy is the co-author of Cassandra’s Field Guide to Ghostly Encounters. As a clairvoyant and spiritual mentor, she has the inside track on the spirit world, especially when it intersects the physical universe.
“Some souls are afraid to make the final leap, and so they sit on the fence until everything gets sorted out to their satisfaction,” says O’Shaughnessy. “Consequently, we have ghosties in the attic, singing in the sun room, raging on the battlefields, and generally marking time because that’s infinitely simpler to do than making a decision to leap into the hereafter.”
O’Shaughnessy says that when someone experiences a ghostly encounter, it’s a matter of that person’s electromagnetic field intersecting with the EM field of a non-physical being. And that can be very spooky when you think you’re all alone.
The photo in the upper left shows an orb “sitting” in a chair. Ghosts most easily manifest as orbs or balls of energy when they want to become visible to the human eye. If you were to sit in that chair with the spirit or orb, you might feel uneasy, or at the very least, a bit crowded.
“Energy perception can be just as powerful as physical sensation,” says O’Shaughnessy. “And here’s the really interesting thing: If you call on ghosts, they will come. At least, most of the time.”
Cassandra O’Shaughnessy will be responding to questions about ghosts on Sunday, February 27th.
