Mike Tyson paid a visit to the Warner Brothers Studios lot in Burbank on Monday, to be the “main event” on Lopez Tonight. Tyson was promoting his new reality show on Animal Planet called, “Taking On Tyson,” which airs Sunday nights at 9 PM. Tyson was also on the show to promote his new iPhone app called, “Mike Tyson’s Main Event.” He said his reality show is about “pigeon racing.” Apparently, pigeons have been a fascination for Tyson since he was a boy and he went back to his old neighborhood for the show. Tyson relates in a clip that as a kid, a guy took one of his pigeons, ripped its head off and tossed it at him. Oddly enough, that was the first time he fought. As for the app, Tyson described it as one in which you can fight him and other people like, Charlie Sheen. Early on, It was a jovial Mike Tyson, who joked that he didn’t actually know if you can fight Sheen on the app, he just saw his name on the “prompter.” There was a sneak peek of the app as the caricatures of Tyson and Lopez were shown on the screen.
But the topics at hand weren’t just about the TV show or the iPhone app. Tyson spoke bluntly about his past drug addiction. He said that during the addiction, he didn’t feel he deserved to have “a prostitute with full blown AIDS.” He also talked about his appearance on “Dancing With the Stars” in another country (it was in Italy). Tyson said his wife didn’t like it. Aside from being jealous, she was also pregnant at the time and she nearly miscarried. On a lighter note, Tyson admitted to Lopez that he watches “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” and “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” He said he finds himself getting mad at Bethany and he doesn’t know why. Lopez tried to get information on whether the new “Hangover” movie was shot in Thailand. But Tyson was mum on the subject. He said it’s possible, but he’s been “sworn to secrecy.” When asked to weigh in on the Charlie Sheen situation, Tyson was hesitant to comment, at first. But then he said, “He wasn’t high. He passed his drug test.” He expressed desire to be on “Charlie’s show.” Tyson said he could give advice to Sheen because he “used to be a coke head.”
Lopez said he remembers meeting Tyson for the first time on “The Arsenio Hall Show,” which was filmed on the Paramount lot in Hollywood. He said he’s always been a fan of Tyson and he’s proud of how far he’s come. Tyson said he is thankful for what he has now and he is content with being a father. Although, he doesn’t rate himself very highly. Lopez put things in perspective for the audience when he said that Tyson was overweight, wore glasses, and was picked on as a kid. He said that kids should remember that when you bully another kid, he can grow up to be “the next Mike Tyson.” Tyson added that when you are a victim (of bullying), you are likely to become “the victimizer.” Lopez concluded that he now sees a Tyson who is “at peace.” Perhaps In a way, Tyson’s pigeons have allowed him to come full circle, as Lopez himself noted, and to be a kid again. This in turn, may have elevated Tyson to a place that none of his punches could have achieved.
