When the temperatures and gang wars in Los Angeles heat up they draw an invisible predator first seen and battled 10 years ago by a group of mercenaries in the jungle of South America. On safari, the predator begins killing drug dealers but soon finds the police are a much more interesting prey. What the predator doesn’t know is that the government is hunting him.
Kevin Hall (The Predator), Danny Glover (Lt. Harrigan), Gary Busey (Keyes), Ruben Blades (Danny), Maria Alonso (Leona), Bill Paxton (Jerry), Robert Davi (Capt. Heinemann), Adam Baldwin (Garber), Kent McCord (Capt. Pilgrim), Morton Downey Jr. (Tony).
Predator 2 starts off in a completely unrelated direction to the first film with the Predator already in Los Angeles, already killing people, and the government not only aware of his presence but experienced at tracking him and ready with a trap. Once we are up to speed on the situation the plot pretty much dissolves as the film focuses on the action with the plot being a necessary byproduct. A few twists along with the action keep things interesting and the parallel subplots mesh together well.
Glover was an interesting choice to play lead against the predator and did fairly well though he felt a bit miscast without his usual humor. Busey was a good antagonist for Glover and Hall supported them both by once again doing wonderfully. Supporting work by a solid cast was nicely done with Blades, Alonso, Paxton, and Baldwin all doing well.
Camera work was well done with good quality and movement. Sets and backgrounds were well detailed and the film obviously had a nice budget. Effects were makeup, action based, and CGI with both makeup and CGI being exceptionally well done. Dialogue was good with some nice mild humor. Sound was good and the soundtrack was consistent with the franchise.
Overall Predator 2 is a nicely done sequel despite a bit of deviation from the original storyline. The film flows well and contains enough action, suspense, drama, and adventure to keep things very interesting right through the end. Fans of the original will likely enjoy this quite a bit.
With plenty of graphic violence, foul language, drug use, nudity, and a fairly explicit sex scene save this for the oldest teens and above.
Predator 2 is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
