Survivors of Jigsaw’s cruel traps have come together seeking support from fellow survivor Bobby, who has turned his second chance at life into a money making venture. But Bobby soon learns that fame will come with a price and although he thought he escaped Jigsaw, the game in fact may not yet be over.
Tobin Bell (Jigsaw/John), Costas Mandylor (Hoffman), Betsy Russell (Jill), Cary Elwes (Gordon), Sean Patrick Flanery (Bobby), Chad Donella (Gibson), Gina Holden (Joyce), Laurence Anthony (Rogers), Dean Armstrong (Cale), Naomi Snieckus (Nina), Rebecca Marshall (Suzanne), James Van Patten (Dr. Heffner).
Saw: 3D wastes no time jumping into the action with more interesting traps as we are quickly impressed with the fact that nothing has ended. Character and plot development are based largely on past films with the use of flashbacks. Though the storyline is linked to past events very well, this entry in the franchise just doesn’t feel like it brings anything new. The overall feel of the film is a continuation of well established horror methods used in previous chapters with the intent of simply trying to keep the franchise profitable while sacrificing depth.
Acting was mediocre with many of the cast feeling like they were just going through the motions. Mandylor felt somewhat stoic while Russell and Flanery delivered fairly good emotion. Elwes was creepy as usual and added a nice twist to the film that seriously brings into doubt that this will be the final film.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were nicely done and consistent with the franchise. Effects were also nicely done with interesting, well detailed traps and excellent gore shots. Dialogue was okay but a bit shallow while sound and soundtrack were well done.
Overall Saw: The Final Chapter is a good horror flick that will make more than a few folks cringe or cover their eyes. At the same time, it is a somewhat disappointing entry in the franchise feeling rushed, without regard for acting, and lacking the depth and quality we have come to expect.
With plenty of extreme violence, blood, gore, torture, and foul language save this for older teens and above.
Saw: The Final Chapter aka. Saw 3D is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
