The Story of O is an interesting fantasy journey into the world of BDSM made more interesting by the fact it is from a woman’s perspective. The story isn’t meant to be an introduction to BDSM, nor it is a realistic presentation of the lifestyle or community. Despite the fantasy aspect, the film does a good job demonstrating different types of control and presenting an interesting picture of what the community could look like. The story also makes clear the concept that women involved in the lifestyle are in control of their actions and destiny. The end of the film was excellent showing how O had matured and presenting a delicious power exchange.
Acting was a bit stiff in this one with most everyone delivering lines that were a bit dry and surprisingly emotionless given the subject of the film. Clery and Kier did the best with a few emotional moments though they didn’t seem to have much chemistry. A nice aspect of the film was that the constantly nude women were realistically presented without attempts to embellish their bodies.
Camera work is a bit disappointing with soft focus and dark shots which appeared to be the style of the film. Sets and backgrounds were nicely done. Dialogue was okay but lacked depth those interested in BDSM might hope to see. Sound and soundtrack were okay.
Overall The Story of O is an entertaining film that tackles a sensitive subject in a very direct way without trying to soften the blow while at the same time avoiding becoming soft-core porn. Those with an interest in BDSM will likely enjoy this quite a bit while others may find the film offensive or debasing to women.
With plenty of persistent full female nudity, explicit sexuality, explicit bondage and submission, BDSM violence, and adult concepts this is without question an adult only film.
The Story of O is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
