Remember the TV series? Well, this ain’t it!!! It is much more than just a satirical remake. The main characters, Jim and Artemis, who were friends in the series are at odds with each other in this one. The plot is thin and unoriginal and the dialogue is ridiculous at times. All of that is exactly what makes this move a lot of fun!! Some complain this was a crummy remake. Who said it was trying to be a good, accurate remake and not poking fun at the original? Others complained it wasn’t a well made ‘period film’. Are you kidding? Did it look like they were trying to make an accurate period film? Compared to the series. . . Oh come on, they were making fun of the series!
Acting was a mess while at the same time, hilarious. Smith, Kline, Branagh, and even Hayek were over the top in almost every scene. There may be a lack of emotion but the energy was very good as was the apparent chemistry between the main cast.
Camera work was well done as were sets and backgrounds though they were not at all period consistent and probably weren’t meant to be. CGI was ridiculously over the top and also well done. Dialogue was campy, silly and fun. Sound and soundtrack were both nicely done.
If you want substance, plot, incredible acting and mind-numbing special effects. . pass on this one. If you want some laughs with some actors you know are good but are just having some fun, don’t care about special effects that may likely never actually be possible, and enjoy a few good sex or anatomy jokes, then check this one out. You just might have a few laughs and find you enjoyed the movie despite the fact it doesn’t make a political or environmental statement you can parrot to your friends later to try and impress them. Oh, and if there is a 10 yr old boy in your house they will love it! Great choice for family movie night.
With some sexual references, innuendo, anatomy jokes, and action violence this should be fine for kids 12 yrs old and above.
Wild Wild West is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
