Their mission is simple: to help people become better skiers or snowboarders.
There are more camps than you can shake a stick at but the primary options are:
Ski Race Camp, Mogul Camp, Freeski Camp, Snowboard Camp, Snowboard Race, Smith Rocks
This introductory article will focus on team camps on Mount Hood’s Palmer Glacier, a world class mountain and facility.
Alumni include gold medal winners Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso.
Because of the location and elevation, Mt Hood Summer Ski Camps make summer training for winter sports teams a real possibility. The organization caters to ski race teams, mogul/freestyle teams, snowboard freeride & snowboard race teams. They are leaders in hosting team camps on Mt Hood. Teams like Killington, British National mogul team, Stowe (alpine and snowboarding), Georgian Peaks, Park City Ski Team, Whitefish Mountain and Stratton Freestyle bring between 10 and 50 athletes to the camp each summer.
Mt Hood Summer Ski Camps offer more than 25 years of experience in transportation, lodging, food service and the best training space the Palmer snowfield has to offer. They efficiently and professionally facilitate the logistical arrangements of camp, leaving you more time to focus on coaching your athletes. They supply important equipment such gates, drills, wrenches, stubbies, or other coaching tools so you can leave yours at home.
If your group is too large to justify bringing another coach from your home program, they can roll some athletes into other groups and get them excellent coaching. And if you are too busy to come to coach your team yourself, they offer a World class coaching staff.
Two basic discount options are available to groups of ten or more athletes.
Option #1: Each camper will receive a $50 discount off their camp tuition per session. So if someone signed up for two sessions, the savings would be $100.
Option #2: Instead of the campers receiving a discount on tuition, Mt. Hood Ski Camp would cover the camp fees for a coach to attend camp. This would include the coach’s food, lodging, lift tickets, afternoon activities, plus a shuttle to and from the Portland airport.
For high school ski teams, a team coach may come to camp to shadow the coaches so they can learn technique, drills & exercises, course setting skills, video analysis, etc. This is of great benefit for the high school coaches who will better his/her own coaching ability for the following winter.
A season ending team banquet is a great way to introduce athletes and parents to the camp. The company can provide you with a camp promotional DVD explaining camp in detail and extra camp brochures to hand out for the banquet.
The camp is set up to help winter sports programs be competitive and give the kids memories that last a lifetime by making summer training part of their program. The real reward is to be part of a program’s rise, becoming state contenders/champions over the course of a year or two. Summer training is a vital element in realizing full potential.
