Children Explore Creativity at ARTScool at The von Liebig
Naples, FL – – (March 22, 2011) The Naples Art Association is pleased to announce the class curriculum for ARTScool, a summer art education program designed for children and teens ages 5 to 14. Now in its 13th year, ARTScool teaches kids about art history, art styles and techniques while creating exciting artwork in a variety of 2D and 3D mediums. Classes are taught by professional artists and certified art instructors and provide a seemingly endless array of possibilities for aspiring artists. Children will be exposed to virtually every aspect of the visual arts including painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, clay modeling, craft-making, printing, and mixed media.
The popular program, which hosted nearly 1,000 students last summer, is now taking applications for the 2011 summer session. “ARTScool is such a wonderful opportunity for children to explore their artistic side,” said Callie Spilane, Director of Education for the Naples Art Association. “I remember art classes as a child, and they inspired me to become the artist I am today. I worked in the business world for many years, but always came back to art as an outlet for my creativity. By showing children all types of media at ARTScool, I hope we are planting the seeds for our future artists and art teachers of tomorrow.”
Some of this year’s class options include: Pop to HIPHOP; Romping in Roman Times; Cut It, Paste It, Paint It; Dragons, Wizards & Whimsy: Visionary VanGogh’s: Tie Dye for Beginners; Peace Love and Art; and Potential Picassos’ and more. A full list of class offerings can be found on the Naples Art Association website at www.naplesart.org/content/ARTScool.
Sessions begin June 13 and run through August 12, 2011. The weekly 3-hour classes are held Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 1 to 4 pm, with both half-day and full-day sessions available. Students may enroll for one week, several or the entire summer.
In addition to the children’s classes, the Naples Art Association invites local high school art students to serve as class aides. This year, Chris French of Naples High School and Miriam Horgan will serve as head interns for the program.
At the end of the summer, ARTScool students will be honored with an exhibition of work and reception on August 14 from 1 to 3 pm. Families, instructors and the public are invited to attend and celebrate the creativity of these young artists. Work will remain on display at The von Liebig Art Center through August 26, 2011. A portion of the exhibition will then move to City Hall and be on display September through January 2012.
Each half-day class is $125 for Naples Art Association members at the family level and above and $150 for non-members. Scholarships are available. Classes are taught at The von Liebig Art Center at 585 Park Street in Naples. Call 239-262-6517 for information or register online at www.naplesart.org.
