So here it is already…. a new year! Well, it is actually more than that, isn’t it? It’s more like a new decade!
While so much has happened in the last decade, so much more is possible in the years to come. We sit on the cusp of it. As we look in, it is empty and full of mystery. It is also the time of the year, for some parts of the world, when mother earth settles in and takes that big nap. Of course, we are still blessed with wintery fresh fruits and vegetables, such as grapefruit, lemon, oranges, tangerines, kale, leeks, radicchio, radishes, rutabaga and turnips. With these seasonal ingredients, there are endless recipes. There are even more options, when you add a potato, coconut milk, rice, spices, beans, butter, or peppers.
Meanwhile at the top of the new year, beautiful beings roam the earth’s frosty soil generating these things called new year resolutions. The history of thenew yearresolution has been connected to various sources, but one thing that is clear is that either you fulfill your new year resolution or you don’t. Many of us may have already broke that new year promise, because transformations are not always easy. There are the simple ones, such as trying a new hair color or living greener. But then there are the ones that change our ways of living, such as ending a relationship with a person or a cigarette.
Some of our resolutions are outlandish and destined for failure. These are the moments that I want to focus on. In life, we may want so much very fast, and sometimes we need to realize that we should take things a step at a time. For those of us that want to go vegan, try eating less dairy or egg products each month, until you feel that you can let it go completely. For the smokers who want to be non-smokers, try smoking one less cigarette or cigar each week. For the junk foodies, try avoiding the candy aisle, because once you get to the counter/impulse area, you may give in to some sugary temptation.
It does not matter what your beliefs are or what calendar you live by, we must understand that life is what we make it. Every single day is a fresh start. Most transformations start from the inside and work outward. Understand it and own it. What we allow to enter our bodies and mind, will accompany us into the future. Food is your fuel, love is your vehicle and belief is your guide. Awaken the senses as much as possible, with whatever limited ingredients that you have this time of the year. But remember to rest when possible. If this summer is comparable to this winter, we are in for a hot one!
Plan wisely and enjoy each step.
Peace and love
