Do you know someone who is making a difference in the St. Louis area with a green initiative? Recognize his or her efforts with a Green Award nomination.
Green Giant is sponsoring the quest for four individuals who have a “Giant” green idea but need funding to keep the initiative alive. Each winner receives $25,000 and will be honored at the Green Awards Celebration in Los Angeles.
Four Types of Green Winners
One winner will be chosen from each category. These categories are split into the four different types of community members who can make a positive impact on their local environment. They are as follows:
Green Civic Leader: Any civil employee who pushes the government to become greener fits into this category. Your local judge, parks commissioner or alderman who focuses on your local environment is a great nomination.
Green Entrepreneur: An inventor or business owner who strives to make the world a greener place is perfect for this award. Your friend who is designing solar panels or reusable materials, for example, can be nominated.
Green Local Organizer: Know someone who is heading the local green grassroots movement? Your neighbor who organizes the local work carpool is a great candidate.
Green Parent: A parent who not only teaches their own children about the value of their environment but also strives to teach other kids how to be green should definitely be nominated. Your friend who rallies all the neighborhood kids to clean up litter in the local park is perfect for this award.
Those nominated are required to submit a 60-second or less video about their plans as well as an explanation of its potential impact on the community in 100 words or less.
The deadline for nominations is March 6, so get moving and recognize someone from the St. Louis area who needs more funding to keep a green dream in motion.
Don’t forget to visit the Green Awards website in March and April to vote for your favorite idea and nominee. The first round is decided by public voting, so support those you helped nominate.
Those who make it through to the second round face a board of judges made up of international environmental group members. Organizations include The Wilderness Society, Green America and Rainforest Alliance.
