Last year, my husband and I found ourselves tuning in every week to watch an most unusual show: RuPaul’s Drag Race, a 10 episode competition on VH1 and Logo, featuring talented (and some stunningly gorgeous ) drag queens. Among the fabulous prizes offered the winner, was a lifetime suppy of NYX Cosmetics.
NYX is not just for drag queens, but I had never tried any of the products before. NYX was named after the ancient Greek goddess who ruled the night (as apparently, do many NYX Cosmetics fans). NYX Cosmetics was founded in 1999 by a young entrepreneur name Toni Ko. Ms. who created the trendy makeup products highly pigmented colors to please her discerning girlfriends.
I wanted to try the line, and since this is the middle of Winter, and everyone’s complexion is a bit pale, I tried the NYX Cosmetics HD Grinding Blush, $16.50. This Mineral-enriched pressed powder blush has a built-in grinder in the bottom part of the black, metal compact, so when you’re ready to “flow” you get fresh, fluffy flakes of highly pigmented color, every time. “Grind” just what you need, so you don’t get the mess of loose powder minerals, but you do get the benefits. Speaking of which, this lovely powder blush deflects light from skin and makes pores appear smaller and smoother. I tried just a bit (on my fingertips–I didn’t even use a brush although I suggest you do) and found I could smooth on a “lit from within” glow with the tiniest bit. There are eight, natural-looking shades. I tried “Sangria in Madrid,” a deep rose blush that looked alarmingly deep in the compact and probably would be quite bold if you use a lot of it, but just a tiny bit blended out to a soft, believable glow that looked, beautiful. Although it wasn’t suggested, I dabbed a bit of this rose on my lips, and found it tinted my lips just a full shade deeper than my normal color, in a matte formula. The addition of some clear gloss deepened the color just a wee bit more, for a sexy pout.
If the other products in the NYX Cosmetics Line are this good and this versatile, I can see why Ru Paul and the other drag queens, love it! Get yours through the NYX Cosmetics Web Site and let the, bring out your inner diva!
