Recently, I purchased the new Olay total effects 7-in-1 anti-aging eye cream (approx $17 – $20 for .2 FL OZ) at my local Rite Aid. This product states that it is a “line and dark circle minimizing” product. It comes in a pen type applictor with a brush tip and is skin tone in color. Total Effects is said to fight the 7 signs of aging: dark circles, fine lines, puffy eyes, loss of firmness, uneven texture, uneven tone, and dryness.
If you’ve seen the advertisement for this product (Glamour Magazine March 2011 issue) it seems to suggest that you can ditch the concealer and use this product instead. Well, I have used it for a week now and here is what I’ve found: (Please note that this is only MY OPINION on this product)
1. Dark circles: Yes, it does slightly diminish dark circles and if you have minor discoloration in your under eye area this may be all you need. I have a little more than “minor” dark circles due to “allergy eyes” and although this helps diffuse the darkness I still need a bit of concealer help.
2. Fine lines: Yes, I felt that it did reduce the appearance of fine lines. Made my concealer go on smoothly.
3. Puffy eyes: I really don’t have problems with puffiness so I can’t rate this product on this aspect but, it is a fact that gentle massaging along with cool compresses (think cucumber or patato slices) helps reduce puffiness. This product seems to have a cool feeling when applied although, I don’t think it is a claim it makes.
4. Loss of firmness: I believe this would happen after continued use of this product. It is very hydrating but, I’ve only used it for a week or so.
5 and 6: Uneven texture and tone: Yes, the flesh toned color and moisturizing nature of the product does make the area appear more even toned and have a smoother texture.
7: Dryness: Yes, it does hydrate the eye area and helps with any crepiness.
BOTTOM LINE: I like this product. It is a nourishing eye cream with the added bonus of a light weight concealer. I am anxiously awaiting to see the long term results. If you are considering trying Olay Total Effects dark circle minimizing eye cream and have minor under eye darkness, this may be all you need. If you are like me, this is a great eye cream that subtly reduces your darker circles and maybe lets you use less of your concealor.
