When I agreed to join Examiner as a soccer writer back in 2008 I made it clear to those involved in my hiring that I wanted to cover soccer in Washington state in a way not done anywhere else. I wanted to give ALL of our community a voice, a place to rely on for news.
It’s 2011 and our soccer culture continues to grow. The Seattle Soccer Examiner slogan “Our Clubs, Our News” is still what drives me to get online every day and post for you. With your help these pages have made “SSE” the most popular soccer place on all of Examiner, nationwide. Last year we had 900,000 views. This year I’d love to see us top 1,000,000.
Bookmark us and stay tuned all year long for everything from Seattle Sounders FC to our neighborhood clubs to the latest social buzz in our soccer world. Remember also that Examiner rewards my efforts in part by how many stories, photos and videos you click on, so please consider clicking daily even if you don’t want to read the whole story.
OK, now for more of Our Clubs…and Our News!
Tacoma Tide FC
There is action behind the scenes at Tacoma Tide FC, and the 6th-year PDL club will be making several announcements in the coming weeks. Examiner will be along for the ride as the “Yellows” prepare for their 2011 season in the City of Destiny.
Capital City FC
CCFC are headed for a big February of tryout sessions as they look to get some talent onboard for their Super-20 and adult teams. I’ve uploaded a tryouts poster to this article. Go to the club website at www.CapitalCityFCinc.com for details in English.
Spokane Black Widows
The Spokane Black Widows are separating from the Spokane Spiders. This means changes for WPSL soccer in Spokane in 2011. A source close to the club tells me:
“Changes are occuring in terms of a change of ownership, name, colors, etc. Players, coaching staff, and management team the same. The WPSL Annual General Meeting is February 5th in Las Vegas, so we will have lots more finalized then in terms of schedule and all that stuff. Lots of legal stuff and paperwork type things are getting pushed through right now so I’ll have more concrete info for you in a few weeks time.”
The Tacoma Stars won their US Arena Soccer Open Cup quarterfinal game in California 7-5 and will face the winner of Friday’s game between the Las Vegas Knights and San Diego Sockers in the semifinals. In the eastern bracket the Louisville Lightning are awaiting the winner of Illinois and Cincinnati to see who their semifinal opponent will be.
The Stars have two big matches this week: Friday at Kitsap Pumas and Sunday at home against Revolucion Tijuana.
The Pumas and their fans are wondering if the third time will be the charm. The Bremerton club hosts the Tacoma Stars on Friday night in PASL-Pro action. The Pumas have lost home and away matches to Tacoma by identical 8:6 scores this year.
Meanwhile the outdoor Pumas will hold open tryouts for the 2011 PDL season on March 5th in Silverdale.
Did you catch the news that Washington Crossfire will play their 2011 PDL home matches at Redmond High School?
