The 28th annual Garden State Outdoor Sportsmen’s & Adventure Show at the New Jersey Convention & Expo Center in Edison will be held Thursday, January 13 through Sunday, January 16. Featured will be the Garden State Deer Classic, sponsored by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. The Garden State Deer Classic is presented each year to feature the outstanding white-tailed deer harvested during the previous year’s hunting seasons and recognize the hunters who took them. A highlight of the Classic each year is a stunning display featuring some of New Jersey’s largest bucks. The event culminates in an awards ceremony on Sunday. As part of the Deer Classic, division biologists are present the entire time to answer questions and discuss management strategies, goals and issues. Hunting equipment manufacturers’ pro-staffers and division biologists also conduct seminars on various topics. Other highlights of the show are: Wild World of Animals & Live Birds of Prey, Brody the 1500 pound Kodiak Brown Bear, Cabela’s Hunting Virtual Animals Video Game, Arcadia Bird Sanctuary, NJ Bass Federation – Reel Kids Casting Competition and an archery range sponsored by the WA-XO’-BE Archers Club. The PA Farm Show continues through January 15th. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in America. The Farm Show Complex is 24 acres under roof, spread throughout 11 buildings including three arenas. The hours of operation are 8 am to 9 pm daily, with the exception of the last day ending at 5 pm. The PA Farm Show charges no admission fee. The show has something for everyone, farmers and non-farmers. It provides an atmosphere for everyone to walk through, observe and educate themselves about different areas of agriculture, the Commonwealth’s largest industry, and what the industry provides to them. The PA Farm Show includes approximately 300 Commercial Exhibitors and includes over 13,000 Competitive Exhibits. Families will learn basic fishing skills and have an opportunity to practice those skills while fishing together during the program. The first half of the program is instructional. You will learn about fishing safety and manners, how to cast your line and tie knots (and practice both of these skills), basic fishing tackle, laws and regulations, etc. The second half of the program will provide your family with the opportunity to fish together. The fishing license requirement is waived for participants 16 and older. The program is open to all ages; however, the program is designed for children ages 5 and up.
