Square Enix is back to release a new addition to the Dissidia series in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy. The Action/RPG features new gameplay features as well as the inclusion of several Final Fantasy characters not having the honor of being included in the first Dissidia. But other than new characters and gameplay features, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy will still include all the protagonists and antagonists from Final Fantasy and the same gameplay from the first Dissidia.
The gameplay of Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy has players pitted against other Final Fantasy characters where the point is to reduce your opponents HP to 0 where the amount of damage done to the other player is counted from your amount of Bravery points. Bravery can be accumulated by hitting your opponent with your characters basic Bravery attack where HP can be depleted by an HP attack. When your Bravery reaches 0, you enter Break mode where you are pretty much useless until your Bravery reaches its normal level. During fights, players accumulate EX Force which is added to an EX bar. When the bar is full, the player can unleash their characters EX Mode adding higher attack strength and new abilities such as the EX Burst which is different for each character and named after the ultimate attacks respective to each characters game such as Cloud Strife’s Omnislash.
But if you already played the first Dissidia then you already knew how to play the game. For the returning veterans, several new gameplay features have been added such as Assist attacks than can now be utilized where other characters can be summoned for help in the battlefield. In these assist attacks come new combos that your assist partner can help you unleash on your opponents. An “RPG” mode has been added for players more accustomed to traditional turn-based gameplay in Role Playing Games. And these are just a few.
In addition to new gameplay features, several characters have been added to the Dissidia roster:
- Kain Highwind of Final Fantasy IV
- Gilgamesh of Final Fantasy V
- Tifa Lockheart of Final Fantasy VII
- Aerith Gainsborough of Final Fantasy VII (Aerith is only available as an assist character)
- Laguna Loire of Final Fantasy VIII
- Yuna of Final Fantasy X
- Prishe of Final Fantasy XI
- Vaan of Final Fantasy XII
- And finally, Lightning of Final Fantasy XIII
