(Matthew 24:1-2 NKJV) Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”
This statement must have absolutely rocked these believers to their very core.
The temple represented the very foundation of the nation of Israel. This meant that everything they had known and trusted in was about to be turned upside down.
Could you imagine what our reaction would be if Jesus were walking the earth today, and were to say to us, “Do you see the Capital Building, the White House, and all of these monuments? Not one of them will be left standing. They will all be turned to rubble.” We would suddenly be confronted with the fact that there is little security for those who trust in nations, or temporal things for security.
God has always given His people an opportunity to prepare for coming storms.
(Romans 13:11-12 NLT) Another reason for right living is that you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for the coming of our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So don’t live in darkness. Get rid of your evil deeds. Shed them like dirty clothes. Clothe yourselves with the armor of right living, as those who live in the light.
(Ephesians 5:14-16 NKJV) Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
If the apostle Paul was admonishing believers to wake up during the first century, how much more imperative could this warning be to us today?
All that we have come to know and rely upon in this world is dramatically changing before our very eyes. Globalism has joined the nations of the world at the hip, so that what affects one nation has direct implications upon others.
Jesus warned that just before His return there would be great distress among the nations of the earth.
(Luke 21:25-26 NKJV) “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; “men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
The troubles that nations are facing are beyond their ability to solve with mere human understanding, and this is only going to continue to increase. God is going to reveal to the nations just how inadequate the strength of man truly is.
Only those nations and individuals who trust in Christ will find confidence in the face of the upcoming storm, because their hope is not in the temporal pleasures of this age, but in the Kingdom of God that will never pass away.
If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, I urge you to call upon Him today so that you can face not only the upcoming storm with confidence, but the judgment that all must face with the same assurance of salvation found in Him alone.
