Bar and Grill restaurants are among my favorites and the nice thing about living in a large metropolitan area like Houston is that you have several hundred from which to choose. One that has been around for a while and has two locations is Pete and Shorty’s Kitchen and Tap.
What is it like at Pete and Shorty’s Kitchen and Tap? Well, this restaurant/tavern is casual and medium in size, with a bar area, dozens of tables and booths, and multiple flat screen televisions for sports and other viewing. The restaurant is full- service and features a menu that includes standard taven fare such as appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, soup & salads, and entres. The food prices are lower than most other restaurants and a family of four can often dine for a cost below $50.
Pete and Shorty’s Kitchen and Tap has a large, full- service bar with about a dozen or so taps of beer. The options on tap are not the greatest, however, and include the standard brews like Budweiser, Miller, and others with only one or two craft beer options. There are a good number of bottled beers from which to select, but with a subname like “Kitchen and Tap”, I was expecting a wider selection of beer served straight from the keg.
Pete and Shorty’s Kitchen and Tap may be short on selection, but it does offer good deal on its beer products. Its signature 20 oz. Shooner of Beer sells for a price of only $2.75 for regular and $3.95 for premium products. The $2.75 rate for a 20 oz. glass is actually very good and much less expensive than the cost of beer at other restaurants or taverns. At a cost of less than 14 cents per ounce, this is like getting a 12 oz. bottle for a price of about $1.65.
Pete and Shorty’s Kitchen and Tap offers some tasty tavern fare and it located in the Houston suburbs of Sugarland and Katy. Again, I am a little disappointed with the draught beer selection and the lack of craft beer on tap. But considering the low prices for food and beer and the quality offered, Pete and Shorty’s Kitchen and Tap is worth a visit.
