Today marks the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that opened the door to legalized abortion. Today an untold number of Catholics from parishes all over Orange county gather at Planned Parenthood centers to pray for the souls of all the lost lives and to hopefully change the decisions of would-be-mothers to add to that number.
Prayers start with “Respect Life” Masses at parishes all through the diocese, then move to 9:30 a.m. rosary vigils at designated Planned Parenthood sites. (See article below for details.)
After the rosary vigils, participants are invited to visit the newest BIRTH CHOICE PREGNANCY CENTER at 1215 East Chapman Avenue in Orange. Open house here runs until noon.
Interested Catholics are invited to attend any or all of the three functions.
The average abortion rate is 23% in this country. In 2009 some places reported numbers as high as 45%. Federal funding of abortion is one of the hottest contested issues in front of Congress.
As a society we marvel at the possibility of microbial life on other planets yet seeming ignore the deliberate destruction of human life on our own.
Mother of God, pray for us.
