For Wednesday, March 23rd 2011 LA TV Insider Examiner recommends:
Modern Family (ABC, 9pm) – “Boys’ Night” – Luke (Nolan Gould) sparks up an unlikely friendship with a curmudgeonly old neighbor (Philip Baker Hall), while Jay (Ed O’Neill) tries to get out of having to go to a concert with his family only to end up out on the town with Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and their friends, including the flamboyant Pepper (guest star Nathan Lane). And perhaps surprisingly, he hits it off extremely well with Pepper. Maybe too well for his son’s liking… Meanwhile, Haley (Sarah Hyland) is left to baby sit Lily.
Mr. Sunshine (ABC, 9:30pm) – “Celebrity Tennis” – This week the Sunshine Center arena is host to a celebrity tennis tournament, pitting pro players against random actors and such. Matthew Perry must have been in hog-heaven during filming, considering his own background in the sport and the fact that Jimmy Connors guest stars as himself! Fred Savage also guest stars as himself to play opposite Ben (Perry) and Alonzo (James Lesure). Secrets come out on the court, most notably about Ben and Alice (Andrea Anders)’s past. And Crystal (Allison Janney)’s usual carelessness actually accidentally brings her closer to her son (Nate Torrence).
Law & Order: SVU (NBC, 10pm) – “Bombshell” – Rose McGowan guest stars as a woman with a possessive boyfriend that Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Chris Meloni) encounter after going undercover at a swingers’ club to get to the bottom of the stabbing murder of family man with a secret hobby.
Top Chef: All-Stars (Bravo, 10pm) – “Last Supper” – We’re down to the final three contestants who have to cook up a memorable “last meal” for guest judges Wolfgang Puck, Michelle Bernstein, and Masaharu Morimoto. Who will take home the title: Antonia Lofaso, Mike Isabella, or Richard Blais? She may be the underdog in this competition, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for Antonia!
Hot in Cleveland (TV Land, 10pm) – “Law & Elka” – In the second season finale, while trying to find a way out of her immigration “problem,” Joy (Jane Leeves) gets herself smack dab in the middle of another scandal, of sorts, involving the governor and his wife, played by guest star Amy Sedaris. In the meantime, Elka’s trial has come at last, where she faces a no-nonsense judge (guest star Sherri Shepherd). Elka’s attorney (Mark Deklin) suggests that her only hope for a not guilty verdict might be some questionable contact with a jury member.
