English alternative rock band Radiohead announced today (February 19th) that their eighth studio album, The King of Limbs is now available to download online, which is one day earlier than previously scheduled. On top of the surprise release date, they have also released a music video for the albums lead single, “Lotus Flower.”
The reason for the one-date push up is because everything was all ready to go on the website, so why not just release it now.
Lets give credit where credit is due, and Radiohead is finding ways to shake up and change the music industry. On February 14, 2011 out of the blue the band announced they will release their latest effort The King of Limbs, on February 19, 2011. After that news sunk in, they laid down another jaw-dropper this morning when they announced people can start to purchase for download the 4-day anticipated album. Well, I am sure any new material from the band is much anticipated but technically they gave the public 4-days to really start getting hyped about new material.
Will this ‘sneak attack’ of releasing a new album help or hinder their sales? Do they even care about sales? The band sells out headlining arena shows all over the world, so they are probably not too worried about selling the record since clearly they have a massive fan base willing to purchase any nee music they release.
Along with the album news, the band released a music video for “Lotus Flower,” which has guitarist/vocalist/pianist Thom Yorke dancing around. Well, maybe I should not use the term dancing, it is more about letting the music take over his body. He is singing along to the track, and it is pretty endearing to see how emotinally invested he is in the song. You see him just let loose, and lose himself in the music he created, the music he believes in, the music he puts out for the world to hear. Well, to be fair it is all of Radiohead, but you know what I mean.
The music video is shot in black and white, and can be seen by clicking the video to the left, or by clicking here.
