Florida the sunshine state, a place were tourism flows by the bucket full not just from other states but worldwide. A state currently run by a clueless Fascist who simply wants to cut up any budget the state may have. To make matters even worse not only is Rick Scott going after state money, but in another example of political futility Scott is looking to turn down, $2.4 billion dollars worth of Federal Stimulus money! This money was going towards the creation of a high speed rail which will serve to create jobs and aid the tourist market which happens to be a large share of the state’s revenue. The plan will basically connect the major city hubs in Florida to make it more accessible not mention help take some cars off the road in a state that pretty much everyone needs to own a vehicle in because of the sorely lacking public transportation system.
Florida’s Transportation System is an oxymoron. The Stimulus though could have helped ease the pain of this, and there was indeed a course set for this to happen. The state of Florida thanks to the stimulus receives the 2.4 billion dollar gift which was also done as a so called bipartisan effort (yes even Florida Republicans in an odd moment decided to take the Federal Money) However Rick Scott feels the spending would not create jobs, he feels that mass transit is a waste (after all his budget already slices 445 million for the state’s transit projects.) Once again Floridians are caught in a quagmire because the Governor has decided to take this action over everyone even his own legislators.“I have no idea, I was taken aback” these words were spoken by U.S Representative John Mica Republican from Winter Park, who is extremely baffled by the Governor’s rejection of money that was simply coming Florida’s way to help stimulate a terrible economy that still has a 12% unemployment rate.
Yet what is the true reason for Scott’s actions? Why would he turn down the federal money that has already been apportioned for the state? The surface response by Scott is skepticism. He is skeptical that there is not some hidden string attached where the state of Florida will have to give up all their state rights and actually join the union? But the truth may simply come down is that Scott is pandering to the ideology of his Tea Masters, who abhor all types of spending yet support Defense spending and Corporate Welfare. Many realize that Florida’s economy is still in dire straits and help is needed “With unemployment at 12 percent, we just got to work this out for the people of Florida,” said U.S Representative Corrine Brown a Democrat from Jacksonville. Yes and it is amazing that Scott who ran on a get to work slogan for the economy does not listen to reason.
In just a couple of short months Rick Scott is already proving to be inept. From creating an unsustainable budget. To now rejecting money that if not taken by Florida will be taken by states who are better governed with more politically savvy leadership. The election of Rick Scott has been a disaster, already plans are underway to create a recall and there is a protest brewing March the 8th Awake the State, basically a rational response to the irrationality coming from Tallahassee these days.Hopefully the rail does find a way to get approved because here in Florida we do need some sort of mass transit and desperately something to boon a horrible economy
