Robert Pattinson just can’t keep his name out of the celebrity spotlight these days, and he’s not complaining. One big question the director of “Water for Elephants” Francis Lawrence needed an answer to was, will the onscreen chemistry between he and Reese Witherspoon work? “There was just this thing that happens between the two of them when they are together as those two characters that was very exciting.” he tells People Magazine in an interview about the movie.
Pattinson had instant rapport with his other co-star Tai, a 9000 pound, 42 year old elephant. RPatt’s role in the movie is that of Jacob (no not that Jacob) a veterinary student who joins the circus. “Rob was non-committal until he saw the elephant,” recalls the film’s animal coordinator Paul ‘Sled’ Reynolds. “After he met Tai, he knew he wanted to do this movie. He absolutely adored that elephant.” *
Get Colorado Local: The Parker Readers, a local book club read “Water for Elephants: A Novel” by Sara Gruen a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Karen had a hard time with the treatment of the animals in the book and thinks it will be interesting to see how the movie portrays the circus conditions. Chris wonders if they’ll be able to stay true to the graphic nature of the book. If you’ve read the book, add your thoughts in the comments below.
The novel stars out with a 90 year old Jacob in a nursing home looking back over his life. The older Jacob will not be Robert Pattinson in aging makeup, Hal Holbrook has been chosen for this role. Holbrook will be perfect in the part. Reese Witherspoon will be the love interest in the film as Marlena the star performer who care deeply about the horses in the show. Marlena’s husband August Rosenbluth will be played by Christoph Waltz who won dozens of awards including best supporting actor for his role in “Inglorious Bastards”.
This movie will be the perfect opportunity for Robert Pattinson to prove himself as an “adult” actor away from the teen glam of his previous roles in “Harry Potter” and “The Twilight Saga” movies. Being surrounded by award winning actors will undoubtedly make him anxious to up his acting game and I am really excited to see what his does with this very serious role.
