That taste of Spring was shortlived, as we’re back to annoying Winter weather in The District again. However, Rock Creek Social Club continued the tradition of holiday success last week with the Singles Awareness Day (S.A.D.) celebration. Initially, people were in “tool cool to have fun” mode, but eventually they loosened up and starting having as much post-Valentine’s Day fun as possible. Jerome Baker III and DJ Harry Hotter forced people to shed their inhibitions, and kept everyone dancing until the lights came on and the bouncers kicked folks out. With Spring (hopefully) right around the corner, this is the type of momentum that Rock Creek Social Club wants to build; hitting their stride as it becomes warm on a consistant basis. Tonight should be another step in the right direction.
Joining Baker tonight will be The Windy City’s own DJ Million $ollar Mano. He’s produced tracks for frequent Kanye West collaborator GLC, fellow Chicago native Shawnna and rising Chicago artists Mic Terror and Hollywood Holt. In addition, he’s gone from spinning at clubs and parties in Chicago to touring with Lupe Fiasco and M.I.A. Mano’s “Dey Know” Remix is a club classic and he’s also cool with DC native tabbi Bonney. It’s not out of the ordinary to catch a few recording artists at Good Life Tuesdays, and there’s a chance a few might appear tonight. Brooklyn MC Theophilus London, fresh from an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman last week, has a show at U Street Music Hall tonight and who’s to say that he doesn’t swing through afterwards? Rumor has it that Common is in town, and that this is his favorite DC party. The last time he was here, he went through a brief medley just out of generosity. Should he show up tonight, who knows what’s in store….
Last week a great success; keep the fun going tonight.
