This is by no means a complete list. There are just so many events for all distances, and running or walking or both. Some are dog friendly, most provide first aid stations and jerseys to all who complete the course. Registration fees vary depending on the length of race and time or registration. 2011 Go Green St.Patrick’s Day 5K/10K Half Marathon

This event takes place in Vasona Park, Los Gatos, CA. Fees are $35/40/55 respectively. This is the second year for this run, which is limited to 1500 and is currently closed at capacity, but do try early for next year. This group, Moshan Productions aims to ‘go green’ and has pledged to be environmentally friendly working with Athletes for a Fit Planet, and partnered with Hydra Pour to work toward “cup free racing”. Santa CruzHalf Marathon/10k Walk/Run

This event is in Santa Cruz and starts out on Beach and Main and goes up West Cliff Drive. The 10k course will be managed at a 15min/mile pace. The half marathon route goes through neighborhoods, strawberry fields, historic farms and Wilder Ranch State Park. Registration fees are between $35/45 for early registration to $60/70 for late registration for 10K and half marathon, respectively.
Western Pacific Marathon & Half Marathon/10K/5K

Brazen Racing hosts many runs in the Bay Area. The Western Pacific Marathon begins and ends at the Quarry Lakes Recreational Area in Fremont, CA and goes along the Alameda Creek Trail. This area was used in the 1800’s as transportation for the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. This terrain is mostly flat, and Fremont has a moderate climate in April making this a good even for beginners as well as those looking to set a personal best. In addition to marathon, there will also be half marathon, 5k and 10k races. Depending on time of registration, cost is approximately $60, and $5 for parking at Quarry Lakes Park. Saturday, May 21st, 2011 This even will take place at the Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve in Palo Alto, CA. This event is part of a series of runs organized by California-based Coastal Trail Runs. The course is along the Bay Area Ridge Trail with views of the Ocean and Santa Cruz Mountains. Registration is $30-50 depending on the length and can be done through the Horseshoe Lake Trail Run site.

The Jungle Run is set in the Los Gatos area along the Los Gatos Creek park reservoir, Vasona Lake County Park and Oak Creek Park. It also goes along Los Gatos Boulevard, Blossom hill Road, Winchester Boulevard to the Los Gatos Creek Trail and by the dam and is mostly flat. “An estimated 13,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair competitors came out in 2010…”. This year, 2011, will mark the 6thrun of the Rock & Roll Half Marathon as it cuts through the streets of San Jose in the heart of the Silicon Valley. The course is mostly fast and flat with live entertainment along the streets and special considerations for wheelchair competitors. There is also a Health and Fitness Expo before the event. Nike Women’s Marathon & Half Marathon

It is estimated that 20,000 women take part in the San Francisco marathon each year. Both lengths start at Union Square and follow an upside-down “U” shaped course. Fees are $115 for the half marathon, $135 for the full marathon. Register at inside.nike.com .This race benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Morgan Hill Marathon, Half Marathon & Kids Run

This year marks the Morgan Hill event’s second run, taking place between the San Jose Rock & Roll Half Marathon in October and the California International Marathon in December. This event also has a 2K kids race. The first half of the race is more challenging with a slow climb, followed by a steep decline before flattening out for the rest.
