Tonight Show host Jay Leno is making headlines this weekend for remaining on the receiving end of what some are calling “perpetual shows of disrespect” by the likes of Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh.
Recently, Howard Stern dropped by The Late Show with David Letterman to verbally blast Jay Leno, saying “Jay is horrible, right?” as the New York audience cheered on the shock jock’s insults. Stern went on to call Leno “talentless” and not worthy of being David Letterman’s competitor (see video on left).

Another major media figure who has reportedly turned his back on Jay Leno is Rush Limbaugh. Although Limbaugh hasn’t publicly dissed Leno, rumor has it that Limbaugh was so displeased with his appearance on The Jay Leno Show in late 2009, that he continues to avoid calls from the Tonight Show to make a guest appearance.
Limbaugh is believed to be upset with the harsh tone Leno continues to strike against prominent Republicans – Rush Limbaugh included.
But Limbaugh has had bigger fish to fry of late than dealing with allegations that he’s being rude to Jay Leno.
All told, conservative and always-controversial radio personality Rush Limbaugh hasn’t enjoyed a very pleasant week. On the heels of Super Bowl Sunday last weekend, Limbaugh made waves – and presumably insulted millions of African Americans in the process – with comments suggesting that black women hate blonde white women.

“One of the biggest pet peeves black women have, in recent decades, is black men marrying or pairing up with white women. It just bugs ‘em, particularly if they happen to be blonde. That’s lighting the fuse. There’s already a bomb there but, if the white woman happens to be blonde, that just… They’re taken off the market. Another black guy gone from the marketplace of available men. So the Pepsi ad has a white woman getting decked by a can of Pepsi thrown by a black woman. A home-run if you understand the demographics here.”
Making matters worse for Rush Limbaugh, in yesterday’s Daily Beast, John Avlon reported that Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are all losing fans in majors markets. According to Avlon, ratings for the New York area, the largest radio market in the nation, bear this out: “… between November ’09 and November ’10… show that Rush Limbaugh’s ratings on WABC declined from 5.4 to 5.0… and in the crucial 24-55 demographic they slid from 3.7 to 2.6.”

Rush Limbaugh has also been subjected to recent fan and tabloid reports suggesting that some of his recent weigh loss has been undone by eating binges and less-than-healthy food choice, all of which resulted in Rush packing on a few unwanted pounds after the holidays.

Not withstanding the troika of bad news for Rush Limbaugh last week, with the 2012 presidential election just around the corner, it’s a safe bet Rush Limbaugh will have no shortage of opportunities to re-claim the spotlight and his presently dwindling audience.
