You’re invited to the 2011 Santa Cruz Chocolate Festival on Sunday, January 23 (1-4pm, Cocoanut Grove) — meet more than 25 vendors including Lifestyle Culinary Arts and Desperately Seeking Chocolate. This affordable benefit ($5 and up: read event overview for details) that supports re-entry student scholarships is sponsored by the UC Santa Cruz Women’s Club.
Lifestyle Culinary Arts is a Santa Cruz area catering company. Chef/owner Andrea Mollenauer, a graduate of Cabrillo College’s Culinary Arts program, has participated in the Chocolate Festival since the event’s launch in 2008. Lifestyle will be offering chocolate fondue at the festival in exchange for customers’ tasting tickets. A decadent chocolate dessert display will include two fondue flavors plus an assortment of dipping treats (bananas and other fruit, marshmallows, cubes of cake, cookies, etc.). Tasters will receive two skewers to fill with treats and dip in both fondues. The fondue flavors will be a surprise; last year featured Mint Moroccan Green Tea Chocolate Fondue, Indian Spiced Chai Chocolate Fondue, and Smoky Bacon & Italian Sea Salt Chocolate Fondue. Also visit Lifestyle’s table to find out more about its gourmet catering, event design services, and classes. Lifestyle has recently partnered with two other local businesswomen to open the Wedding Stop & Cake Shoppe in downtown Santa Cruz. Partner Stephany Buswell, owner of the Cake Shoppe, will also be participating in this year’s Chocolate Festival. They will be promoting their wedding- and event-related services – a “one stop shop for all your event needs.”
Desperately Seeking Chocolate is a local Brookdale company that makes mouth-wateringly delightful dessert sauces. Its four varieties are Original Hot Fudge, Ginger Habanero Hot Fudge, Mint Fudge, and Mocha Latte Fudge. For the Santa Cruz Chocolate Festival, Desperately Seeking Chocolate will be serving all four sauces for tasting in exchange for tickets. Stop by and sample their warm hot fudge fondue with a brownie, strawberries, and other delicious bites. Read more in my article that includes a recipe link. Jars of these sauces will be available for customers to purchase. You can also find these products at shops including New Leaf, Chefworks, Whole Foods, Deluxe Foods, and Ben Lomond Market. You can join the many fans that enjoy the sauce over ice cream or pastries, or even in their coffee!
