Will that be cash, credit, or smartphone? While that may still sound strange to some, paying for everyday items with your smartphone is becoming more common place as their popularity increases. If you want to get your Starbucks coffee even faster, you’re in luck. Earlier this week Starbucks launched a fast, convenient way to pay for your favorite Starbucks treats using your smartphone.
Quick App Overview
To take advantage of this new payment option, just download the Starbucks Mobile Card App to get started. The app will display a bar code on your screen that the cashier simply scans at the register, your account is automatically deducted, and you’re on your way with your coffee. The app also allows you to easily locate stores, check account balances, manage account details; check rewards points, view recent transactions and more. Today, the application is only available for the iPhone and Blackberry, however, an Android version is in the works.
A Few Details
- You still need to pick up a Starbucks card from your local store and register it in order to use the mobile card app. Just enter the username and password you set up during registration to begin using the application. Starbucks considers the mobile card app as a supplement to the physical card, not a replacement. Although there’s little reason to carry it with you once you have the app and running on your smartphone. That’s one less thing to carry.
- To add money to the card, you have a few options; you can go to the Starbucks card website to add a credit card and the amount you’d like to add. There’s also an auto-reload feature that automatically replenishes your account, click here to learn more. Finally, you can visit any local store to add money to the card via cash or credit card. PayPal isn’t an option right now, but that may come later.
- The Starbucks Mobile Card App has a store locator feature to help you locate any Starbucks in the country. However, to use the view map feature, Google Maps must be installed on your smartphone.
