Why Nighttime Moisturizers Are Important
A nighttime moisturizer is just as important to a daily beauty regime as a daytime moisturizer. Skin is more receptive to treatment at night which is the body’s natural time to heal itself. In addition, many active ingredients work better when they are not exposed to UV light. With Nashville’s sunny climes, good overnight moisturizers can accomplish healing that can’t be achieved in the bright light of day.
Overnight Facial Moisturizers
As mentioned in Skin Care 101: Moisturizers–daytime facial moisturizers, ingredients to look for in any moisturizer include peptides, lipids, antioxidents, retinol, hyaluronan, and humectants which work especially well on the skin overnight. I recommend the Anti-Age Overnight Restorative Cream which has all the above ingredients plus quite a few other vitamins, minerals and botanicals to fortify the skin and help it hydrates itself.
For a person dealing with wrinkles, fine lines and loss of texture, unless your skin is very dry or sensitive, you want to use at least one retinol product a day, and a good place to apply it is in a moisturizer, day or night. However, you don’t want to use a moisturizer with retinol on top of another product with retinol, so keep that in mind when choosing a nighttime moisturizer
Overnight Body Moisturizers
As mentioned in Skin Care 101: Moisturizers– Daytime body moisturizers, many women will buy a top-notch facial cream or lotion to moisturize and repair the face–the first place to show age and sun damage, and will spend less on their body lotion to save money. There is nothing wrong with saving some money on your nighttime body lotion, but if you can afford an overnight moisturizer with better ingredients which will work on the skin at night to rebuild collagen and help the skin be better equipped to hydrate itself, that’s definitely the way to go.
As far as an inexpensive body lotion with some decent basic ingredients, the Vaseline Intensive Care Renewal Age Redefining Body Lotion has some good ingredients listed as does the Aveeno Advanced Care Moisturizing Cream.
