Elmwood Park police shattered their record of DWI arrests last year — and, in the process, may have become one of the leaders not just in Bergen County but throughout the state, with 235. Leading the way, again, was P.O. Michael Prelich, with 55 arrests, nearly a quarter of the entire department’s total.
Prelich, whose dedication to keeping roads safe was recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for the 2009 calendar year, is being nominated again, said Elmwood Park Deputy Police Chief John Palmeri.
Oh, and by the way: Prelich also wrote 3,517 summonses last year — an average of nearly 10 a day if you divide by 365 — while also answering calls for service in the 2.8-square-mile town known decades ago as East Paterson.
