The word spirituality gets tossed around quite a bit. We’ve all heard it, “I’m not religious. I’m spiritual”. “I come here for the spiritual experience”, “My spirituality was lifted to another level”. There is no measurement for it, we can’t see it, but we can feel it.
Especially in such a place like Laguna Beach, California, where the winding canyons guide your way to a beautiful blue ocean, the flowers and trees, the sand and the water all do their part in making your visit, well… Spiritual!
Once you leave the laid back attitude of Laguna Beach it won’t take long to get caught up in the traffic and smog, the people and the chaos. Spirituality gets tossed in the trunck along with the sand covered towel and the old pair of flip-flops.
There has to be a way to capture that feeling and take it with you wherever you go. Spirituality should be more than a fleeting moment. There should be a place that sells it in a bottle. Okay, so it’s not sold in stores. So where do we start?
Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary defines spiritual as: relating to, consisting of, or affecting the spirit. We must relate to, be consistent, and be affected by something to feel spiritualism. I think we can do that!
By relating to others with the same mentality, feelings, and thoughts it makes it easier to not feel judged and misunderstood and in return we allow ourselves to be guided through the journey of self-exploration with no inhibitions or walls to keep us in.
Once we relate we can be consistent, we come back for more. Much like a drug we will seek that feeling we had the first time we felt our spirit lifted. We’ll want to relive that moment over and over and we come back for more.
This in turn will start affecting our daily life. Waking up in a good mood, being kinder to people, enjoying the day, not worrying about work. The attitude that everything in life is as it should be and most of all carrying a silly grin all day long.
We start respecting, liking, and loving ourselves. Then other folks start respecting, liking, and loving us. Then we want to give it back and before you know it we’ve created some spiritually charged game of tag, where you want to be ‘It’.
Now that we have that feeling within us we should go and find other ways to keep that feeling going. Let’s go on this journey together and see how we can carry this spirituality with us where ever we go. Let’s explore the spiritual side of Laguna Beach.
