The Super Bowl 2011 is the most anticipated event for football fans nationwide, it is also the most anticipated money making event for the businesses in and around Arlington Texas. This is home to the Cowboys Stadium where Super Bowl 45 is played this year. There is one very dark business setting up for making money, which is a sick and inhuman – the child sex trade also called child sex trafficking. If you think it only happens overseas, think again.
As football fans start filling the city hotels, shops and restaurants the week, not hundreds, but thousands of young girls are brought in by pimps who are hoping to sell them for sex to the thousands of men coming in to see the Super Bowl 2011, according to Rueters. This is nothing new, it goes on every year in what ever city that hosts the Super Bowl.
These girls start out as underage runaways, or kids that have been kicked out of their homes. The pimps recruit them with promises of a “family” and that they will be taken care of. They then move them to a city far away from anyone they know and use all types of horrific tactics to mold them into underage hookers, including mental and physical abuse.
During the last two Super Bowls 50 girls were rescued, with six who were registered with the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The pimps have hired taxi’s and turned them in to brothels on wheels, while at previous Super Bowl games, according to Deena Graves, Executive Director for the advocacy group Traffic 911.
Law enforcement is getting some help from the airlines to combat this very serious crime. The airlines have been conducting training sessions for their staff, it is for all the staff that comes in contact with passengers from the ticket personal to the air flight attendants. The staff is given training on how to spot these young girls who are being trafficked to the Super Bowl game for sex.
These girls come from all over the USA. Runaways from Connecticut to California are scooped up by these pimps and groomed for sex at events such as these. According to the advocacy groups director, saving even one girl makes this operation worth it. The advocacy group will work with law enforcement to get these girls off the streets around the Super Bowl this weekend.
Girls from New Haven, Hartford, and even the rural towns across Connecticut are not immune from this type of predator. These men are slick and will take a girl at a very vulnerable time in their life and groom them for the sex trade.
