Congratulations! You are halfway through the “Surviving Valentine’s Day Single” series. Only one more week until V-Day. How to you feel? Still stressed out? Now that the Super Bowl is over, even more advertising space will be devoted to V-Day sales. There will be specials on jewelry, clothing, just about anything a girl could want. In today’s Newsday, there is even a whole spread devoted to what kind of gifts you can give your valentine. Well, who says you need a valentine to get gifts? Take advantage of the sales and buy a gift just for you.
It’s doubtful that a cashier will ask who you’re buying an item for. Especially when lines are long, they’re focused on ringing you up, taking your money and moving on to the next person as soon as possible. Unless you say something, no one needs to know you’re buying a gift for yourself, if that’s what’s bothering you. There’s no need to explain yourself to anyone. Then again, if you’re having trouble looking for what you want, someone may ask who you’re shopping for so they can help you find the perfect gift. You have two choices here. You can lie and say you’re looking for something for your mother/sister/cousin/aunt, or you can empower yourself and say you’re treating yourself for being single and happy. If you want a new dress or pair of earrings, go for it! Who’s to stop you?
The whole point of today’s focus is to boost your confidence and help you to realize your own independence. You don’t need a man to buy you nice things. You can do that yourself, and sometimes that means more. Having something nice that you paid for with your own money can feel like a huge achievement. You work hard all week to earn that paycheck and now you have something to show for it.
Speaking of work, there’s no rule that says you can’t send yourself flowers. No one at your job needs to know who they’re from. Now mind you, flowers are most expensive around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. If that doesn’t suit your budget, send yourself a gift basket. It could be an at-home spa package, a food basket, whatever you want. Just search online and place your order. Be sure to order right away so your gift basket will be delivered on time.
Consider this an opportunity to reward yourself. Just be sure you aren’t spending more than you can handle. You don’t want to buy a diamond necklace only to spend the next few months paying it off, with interest. Set a limit as to how much you’re willing to spend on yourself, then go out and find your Valentine’s Day gift to you. After all, you deserve it.
