Good Morning Boston, how are we this morning? So last week Tabatha took over P-Town and this week she was all up in Newbury Streets grill. I know when you hear Newbury St. you’re thinking the best of the best, right? Wrong. If you don’t believe me go catch a rerun of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover from last night featuring Avanti on Newbury St. in Boston, you may just decide Super Cuts ain’t so bad. All right let’s chat…
Alex is the owner and whipping boy of Avanti Salon on Newbury St, where I have to say, his staff kind of sucked big time. Let’s meet them, there is Janida, Priscilla, Betty the book keeper, and Rob the assistant.
Now let’s see why Tabatha thought they suck so badly. You have employees starting a color process and leaving to do an errand, another having clients helping with their own foils, and a booze bag named Janida stumbling in after a late night, most likely wearing the same clothing from the previous day. Whatevs, it’s all a day in the life of an Avanti stylist.
Tabatha decides this is not going to do and takes these employees by the neck to explain how a salon is supposed to be run. I know it sounds nutty but clients prefer when their stylist is sober, doesn’t reek of booze and is in the building. Oh and I know this sounds strange but clients do not like to help with their foiling process. I know, I know it’s bizarre Priscilla but when you pay someone to do it, you kind of expect them to be the person doing it. Rob W. the assistant seems like maybe he would do something if somebody would let go of the control issues and let him give it a whirl.
So Tabby does what she does best and screams at everyone, hauls Alex down to the Charles where he gets some manly advice from the Harvard rowing crew and voila he’s ready to getter done!
Back at the salon, it’s time for a couple of cosmetic improvements and then it’s open for business. Clients start coming in and it seems like their might be an air of change around Avanti and then you get to Priscilla. Girlfriend is full of, I ain’t doing anything different, I’m fine just being me, divaliciousness. Tab’s calls her on the diva act and she finally allows Rob to shampoo her clients hair. I know he seemed thrilled to pieces.
Tabatha gets ready to peace out but suggests that Alex begin a staff training program and make sure that Janida lays off the booze. She’s kinda at a loss for words about Priscilla, so what does that tell you?
When Tabs comes back for her follow up Alex is still cracking the whip and it seems like everyone has a new attitude, everyone except Priscilla. She is still gonna be a diva and you just can’t stop her….unless you fire her. Who knows how it will end for Priscilla. Janida, on the other hand scored a 2k shopping spree. You go girl, you deserve it.
So what do you think, will Avanti be a salon you would be willing to try? Let me know in the comment section below.
