In Austin and D.C. elected representatives are eager—make that giddy— scyths and torches in hand ready to take on “entitlements” a/k/a programs that help the poor, disadvantaged and disabled. Ironically, these are the same guys who fought tooth and nail to keep the top 1%’s tax cuts. Think of it as Robin Hood in reverse.
GOPers have no incentive and even less intent to do anything to close the $27B dollar deficit gap. Instead GOPers will use the shortfall as an excuse to slash assistance to the defenseless. At the same time GOPers are already using the deficit as a club for increasing their power, as if in Texas Red they need it.
It was considered untoward to let the tax cuts lapse and have the top 1%’s taxes go from 35% to all of 39%. No Sir, can’t have that. But it is okay to slash and burn most if not all of the pittance to the “tired, …poor, …huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Gosh what’s not to like about these lapdogs? How about nothing to like?
The real puzzle for me is figuring out what motivates the majority population of Red states to keep putting these hateful, mean-spirited egregious bigots and lapdogs in office. I don’t get it.
It could be ignorance on the part of the majority. They are afterall proud graduates of the apartheid public education system. It is a system in which students learn little but do receive a great brainwashing and indoctrination as if their home life wasn’t enough.
Then again it wasn’t that long ago that religiosities brought us “hell fire and brimstone” and of course, witch hunts—for almost two centuries in this country and around the world. Emerging from the Dark Ages was as is the case with most change a slow, painful experience.
Ruling religiosities, just as is the case with any other holder of power, loathe to let go of their power. Theirs was a concerted effort to extinguish their opposition. Their opposition was anyone that was defiant and unwilling to do as told. To make the point it is estimated that religiosities put an estimated 100,000 “witches” to death in just the final two centuries of that transition period from Dark Ages to the Age of Englightenment, the Renaissance.
Power it is said, corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. That is a given. So perhaps the compassionate conservative religiosities believe that three centuries is long enough for them to be out of power. Not that I believe that the religiosities were ever too far out of the picture. Don’t forget that just over fifty years ago they foisted “In God We Trust” on our currency and the pledge of allegiance on us all.
It is just amazing to me that the average person falls under the spell of these clowns so easily. Be that as it may and speaking of clowns the goings on in Austin are captured in the Texas Observer.
So much to do, so little time. GOPers are doing their very best to look under every statute and clause to find more rights and freedoms to curb, limit, eliminate and otherwise do-away with. The most oppressive regimes in history have nothing on these guys.
So you want an abortion do you? Well first my little pretty you’ll have to view moving pictures of what you are voiding from your person! (However, even if you don’t have the abortion there won’t be any help, money or opportunity for you or your offspring) And since the compassionate conservative religiosities can’t use thumb-screws and can’t pillory those with whom they disagree, what are compassionate conservative religiosities to do? (Hope they don’t think about using “w’s” extraordinary rendition).
And you—you want to protect the family farm from eminent domain? Don’t worry we’re here to help you. The “government” will not be able to take your land!! Other monied interests? Well…..
You there, yes you. You want to hire undocumenteds a/k/a “illegals” to do all those jobs ‘mericans desire and deserve? Off to jail for you!! (no doubt the ruling forces are anxious to bring back the old standby “off with their heads”)
There are just too many liberals in Texas Red!! Wait till the census numbers come out and GOPers are able to divvy up those liberal dens of iniquity, make that democratic congressional districts.
So you think this is a cratered landscape of prisons, deplorable apartheid public education, lack of healthcare and politicians and majority population intent on keeping it that way? You haven’t seen anything yet!
See, now that’s pretty much what I’m afraid of…
Fom Texas Red: a cratered landscape of prisons, deplorable apartheid public education, lack of healthcare and politicians and majority population intent on keeping it that way…

From Committee Assignments to Emergency Items
“Speaker of the House [Bexar County’s own] Joe Straus let bygones be bygones as he appointed many of his political foes, like Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, and Wayne Christian, R-Center, to key House committees. Committee appointments released yesterday were kinder than some may have expected.”

The Rope, the Chair, and the Needle: Capital Punishment in Texas, 1923-1990
“However, James W. Marquart, Sheldon Ekland-Olson, and Jonathan R. Sorensen offer a more complex thesis. In their book, The Rope, the Chair, and the Needle: Capital Punishment in Texas, 1923-1990, they argue that Texas’ execution rate reflects the Southern “cultural tradition of exclusion,” and that “[s]uch exclusion was a basic element of the legacy of slavery.”
