Ranked one of the top 10 art festivals nationally, the 32nd Annual Naples National Art Festival will take place this weekend, February 26 and 27, in Cambier Park. The festival is again packed with visual and performing arts for families, tourists, novice and experienced art collectors.
Mayor Bill Barnett will kick off the festival with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 Saturday morning at the main entrance to Cambier Park off 8th Street South. Joining the mayor will be the Barron Collier High School Color Guard, Mike Reagan (President and CEO of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce), Joel Kessler (Naples Art Association Executive Director), Frank Nappo (Board Chairman), and Marianne Megela (Festivals Director).
Awards will be presented to the festival’s top artists on Sunday morning based on artistic merit, design, vision, creativity, craftsmanship, technical competence, degree of difficulty, and mastery of materials. A news release will announce the 2011 winners, including the top honor, “Best of Show.”
Ten of 2010’s award winners from 2010 will be returning to this year’s festival including the “Best in Show” winner, Judith Wood of West Palm Beach and “Best in 2D” winner Greg Barnes of Charlotte, NC.
Performing artists will hit the Band Shell stage on Saturday beginning at 11 AM and continue through Sunday at 4:45 PM. There will be singing, acting, and dancing. The performance schedule appears in the press release published here yesterday.
The Naples National Arts Festival serves as the Naples Art Association’s largest fund raiser, and the association requests a $5 donation when you enter the festival. Monies raised help support programming at the Art Center and scholarships for the non-profit’s summer education program for children and teens called ARTScool. (The Naples Art Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing art education programs for children and adults in southwest Florida.)
