The Bachelor’s hometown date with Shawntel began in Chico, California at the family owned business, a funeral home.
Brad Womack was looking forward to his hometown date with Shawntel Newton, meeting her family, learning the intricate details of her life. The Bachelor felt Shawntel was wife material. No emotional roller coasters, no games, no drama, nothing to complicate the budding relationship the two were beginning to develop.
The Bachelor’s hometown date with Shawntel might have gone a little more smoothly had Shawntel not delved so deeply into her profession of Funeral Director. The Bachelor had been fascinated as well as repelled by Shawntel’s profession from the beginning. Funeral Director can’t be an easy subject for someone who has a problem handling death as Brad Womack does.
During the hometown date Shawntel treated The Bachelor to a tour of the funeral home, starting at the moselium, followed by the crematorium and ending in the embalming room where Shawntel asked if Womack would like to see the instruments she uses during the embalming process. Yes, no, maybe not, but in the end The Bachelor agreed, lay on the embalming table and listened as Shawntel describes, in detail, the gruesome process of embalming. Brad Womack freaks out.
Thoughts of a future with Shawntel began to take shape in The Bachelor’s imagination. Quite evenings at home discussing their work day, and death would be the basis of many conversations.
Finally, The Bachelor gets to meet Shawntel’s parents. Things quickly head south as Shawntel’s family informs Womack that one day she would take over the family business. All were quiet; The Bachelor had been clear on this subject from the get-go, wife to be would relocate to his hometown of Austin, Texas.
Shawntel explains to her parents that Brad lives in Texas and plans change.
When hometown date with Shawntel came to an end, the family gave their blessing to the two even though they were disappointed with her decision of leaving Chico, California and deserting the family business. This rift was not lost on The Bachelor.
Relieved that hometown date with The Bachelor had resulted in her family blessing their possible union, Shawntel decided it was time to share her feelings with Womack. She told him that she had fallen in love with him. The Bachelor said nothing.
During the rose ceremony, The Bachelor cut Shawntel Newton loose. Brad Womack did not offer her a rose. Shawntel Newton went home.
What was The Bachelor’s explanation to Shawntel for sending her home?
“I want you to know that I care for you but, I didn’t feel the way a man should feel when you tell him that you love him.”
