It’s been a long time since I’ve held a pass to any theme park. I held a Silver Passport at Busch Gardens Williamsburg until I was about ten years old, and I held a basic season pass to Kings Dominion in 2008. After moving to Florida and purchasing a platinum pass to Seaworld, I forgot how much I really appreciated the perks and discounts they have to offer.
I’ll be the first one to admit that passes to Florida theme parks are not cheap to begin with. A one day ticket to a single Disney or Universal park is currently $82, with Seaworld and Busch Gardens following not too far behind. The parks are busy and the summer heat can make things pretty miserable, but it’s the perks that make them worth-while.
The best part of having a Platinum Pass with Seaworld Parks and Entertainment is no blackout dates. I can go pretty much anytime I please. When I get tired after a few hours, I don’t feel awful for leaving because I know there’s always next time (that’s pretty much how it was when I was a kid).
Free Parking. Not only do I get free parking with the Platinum, I get free Preferred Parking when it’s available. That means parking closer and no tram rides when visiting Busch Gardens Tampa. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a relaxing ride after a long day, but there’s no waiting in line to catch a tram at the end of the night.
In park discounts are good too. Occasionally when we eat in the park, or when we purchase a souvenir to remember the fun we had, we save a bit of money too. Some complain that it’s “only 10%”, but hey, I just saved 10%. It’s better than nothing!
Another favorite of mine is the preferred seating at shows. Most of the shows that offer preferred seating offer them dead center. It makes a great spot to get great photos of the performance or just a great view. Right along with preferred seating in shows is a free ride on Seaworld’s Skytower. During various “busy” times in the year, it’s no longer free, but it offers a great air-conditioned view of Seaworld and the rest of Orlando. During your trip to the skyline, you might be able to spot some of Orlando’s attractions, like the Orange County Convention Center, Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom, Spaceship Earth at Epcot, and more.
Passes to Florida theme parks offer some of the greatest deals and perks, for a price, of course. I currently hold a pass to Universal Orlando and a Platinum Pass to Seaworld. If you’re able to visit the parks pretty frequently, I highly suggest an annual pass to the parks, even if it’s the most basic pass you can purchase. The more you visit, the more appealing the pass becomes.
