It’s that time of year again, February, not only the month of Super Bowl Sunday, NBA Allstar Weekend, and Black History Month, but also the great owner of the “romantic” holiday known as Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day is the day that haunts single women everywhere! What started off as a Roman Catholic holiday honoring Saint Valentine has emerged into a day of romance based on a legend that there once was a priest, who after the Roman emperor outlawed marriage for his soldiers, would secretly perform marriage ceremonies for the soldiers and their beloved ones on February 14th. The priest, Saint Valentine, was later imprisoned for his actions. Whatever the catalyst for the “holiday” of love, it later grew into a day in which lovers honor one another and show their appreciation by handing each other flowers, cards, and candy. This sounds like a good time, but what happens to those who are short a beloved one?
The entire week of February 14th is a torturous one for single women. All day, every day, single women are asked, “So what are your big plans for Valentine’s Day?” Then one has to decide whether to let this person know the truth or lie just to fit in, so you say, “I don’t know yet, leaving it in his hands,” (as if there were a him), when the truth is, you’ll be at home alone, watching “The Notebook” while eating a giant bowl of Coldstones.
Hell, this may be the ending to your night even if you do have a boyfriend, because most likely he’s going to disappoint you somehow. He’ll either forget, not care, or plan something so lame that you’d wish you were single. All in all, Valentine’s Day is an irritating day for most women, because if you’re single, you’re stuck walking around feeling like everyone has someone who loves them but you, and if you’re in a relationship, you get your hopes up that he’ll get you something wonderful or plan something romantic, then end up pissed off when all you got was a hug, a kiss and a big box full of nothing! Either way, 8 out of 10, Valentine’s Day for women will end up like this:
It’s apparent that Valentine’s Day is the one day of the year created specifically to torture single women everywhere! So if you are “alone” on Valentine’s Day in Los Angeles this year, connect with your single girlfriends and enjoy your singleness.
