The Lee’s, Cliff — the returning ace pitcher for the Phillies — and his wife Kristen, seem like decent, smart and charming people. At least from what gets reported. In the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Kristen Lee was quoted praising public transportation. You have to appreciate that kind of respect for the environment. Cliff Lee is talented, Kristen Lee is sharp. And, they are loaded but they don’t come across as people likely to flaunt their millions. She’s fine taking SEPTA. If you have it, you don’t have to flaunt it.
Sure, the family will have a few sedans and probably a hybrid in there for good measure. But momma is gonna need a heavy duty vehicle — one that can muscle through the Bucks County and the wonderlands of the city. Mrs. Lee is gonna need something that fits her style and personality. Something substantial that will haul the kids and their friends to the Zoo. Or to a Phillies game. Kristen Lee has it, but she won’t want to flaunt it.
With that in mind, here are three amazing SUVs that Mrs. Lee should get into, drive and enjoy.
This is a meaningful vehicle. It’s expensive at $60K but its not crazy expensive like the Land Rover at near $90K for the top of the line models. The Land Rover is kinda bling, right? That does not appear to be their style at all. She can feel confident that when she rolls out of the neighborhood in the black Sequoia (Oh, and it has to be black — throw some bug-eyed Chanel shades on her and it’s getting real) with the 5.7 liter I Force V8 she’s going to get 380 horse power and that’s is going to get her into Center City nicely.
The ride is smooth with top notch anti-lock breaks, electronic mobilized air suspension, and all the necessary options. Because, look: the Lee’s are taking the options. And, unlike the new 4Runners from their same family tree, the Sequoia feels solid, like a tank. It rides high, just the way ladies like it. Tons of airbags all over the passenger cage means everyone will be safe. It’s a good choice for those that are doing well, but it reads “reasonable.”
It seems like no one is driving the Audi Q7. Not sure why, but Kristen Lee can totally be the trend setter to get this vehicle the attention it deserves. The Q7 feels like an under the radar option. The Q7 is sporty, fun and high performance. 333 Horsepower with 3.0 liter V6 is getting serious, and getting on and off the Schuylkill will be a complete breeze. The Q7 is pricey, but it doesn’t scream EXPENSIVE. It’s an understated kind of quality and classiness. The wood steering wheel, the excellent audio/video components. The stance of this car is sure to please. It looks tough, but has a soft heart. The S-Line Prestige is loaded for $60K. The Q7 looks and feels amazing.
The Lexus GX is another great choice. Lexus considers this a luxury utility vehicle, and of course it is. Heated steering wheel, heated seats, spacious third row, top notch sound and navigation systems. It is a nice fit for a smart, fashionable baseball wife. The LX is just so BIG, it is almost strange looking, like it’s bloated. Hard to believe that the GX and the LX come from the same corporate conglomerate — the Toyota/Lexus family of products — as the 2010 4Runner, but there you go. Great space and a smooth ride on the road to New Hope. Richly appointed interior, plenty of safety features, and a great reputation make the Lexus GX a solid choice for Mrs. Lee.
For the last choice, it is very hard to stay away from the Land Rover, what with its richly appointed leathers on the inside and the amazing 5.0 V8 and a whopping 510 HP under the hood. But, the real problem is that most people resent this vehicle. They resent the $90K price tag and all that comes with it. Especially in today’s economy, it is hard to watch this amazing car ride by on the highway and not feel jealous and somewhat pissed at those who feel compelled to spend $90K on it. Even on a lease you are talking about several thousand dollars per month for most people. Mrs. Lee can’t go there. Shouldn’t go there. Maybe Cliff can.
Charity dinners and MLB functions can take a toll on the wife of a Phillies superstar, not to mention the toll it can take on a vehicle. Shouldn’t Kristen Lee be able to sit behind the wheel of a high quality, top of the line SUV, in her Chanel Sunglasses, without the fear of raising eyebrows? Absolutely.
