With the page being largely on a hiatus this past week for vacation, we are a bit late when it comes to posting this look at “Top Chef All-Stars.” (Better late than never, though, right?)
Before we get into the Restaurant Wars portion of this, how awkward was the Quickfire to anyone else? Watching people cut fish as fast as humanly possible was more dangerous than entertaining, and it ultimately allowed only four chefs into the final round to do what so many of us tune in to see — creating. In the end Dale won yet another challenge, showing that he definitely is stepping up his game this time around. It also gave him immunity, which is a good thing since Restaurant Wars did him in the first time around.
This time, the chefs were all outside, and Dale had the opportunity as winner to also pick another team captain — and he brilliantly chose Marcel, someone who is brilliant as a chef but also rubs many people the wrong way. The placement of such a polarizing figure as a leader set the tone for his team’s failure. You had Mike shouting over the proteins, Angelo hiding for dear life, and Tiffany at the front looking completely out of her element.
Meanwhile, Fabio quickly cemented himself on the other side as the king of running the house. He was friendly, amicable, and had all of the staff in order. It also helped that his food was fantastic. Ultimately, though, Richard was the clear MVP on the kitchen and won $10,000 for his efforts. Could this show actually exist without Richard in the finale? At this point, it’s pretty tough to see it happening.
We all knew the moment that Marcel tried to whip up a “surprise dessert” — one that was pannel by pretty much everyone — that his days in the kitchen were numbered. He was ultimately sent along his ways, even if he felt he really did nothing wrong.
Who are you rooting for out of the remaining chefs?
