If you are heading to the box office this weekend your going to see an eagle, a big momma and oh… a Bieber. Its no surprise which film has had a supreme gross since its release last weekend, Bieber mania is in full effect and thats no surprise. The shocker, with a gross of over 162,000,000 million dollars alone is the 60 day tenure of the best selling book and remake to John Wayne’s classic “True Grit.” The 10 time Academy award nominated and winner of numerous awards including: Toronto Film Critic’s and the well recognized Critic’s Choice Award has not only brought hype for sales in at the box office but since its release has revived the published novel written by author James Portis as well. The Overlook press has printed 200,000 copies of the book before the release. According to Jack Lemplough, a publicist for the New York based publishing house says, “More than 20,000 copies of Portis’ western epic were sold a week after it’s opening weekend.”
The Academy Awards is in 8 days and critics are all expecting True Grit to win at least 2 awards out 10 nominations. Big time movies this year such as: “Inception” “The Fighter” and “The Social Network” will all be in the running against True Grit for Best Picture. If I had a choice of movies I have yet to see this year, the eagle will not be landing big momma will not be stompin and bieber will not be taking the cake, True Grit is what I’ll be watching!
