This is the 24th story in a series of articles about people who write for glowbass.com, Tucson edition. Today Tucson Places and Faces visits with Tucson Dating Examiner, Ryn Gargulinski.
“I look at life with a sense of humor.” said Ryn Gargulinski, Tucson Dating Examiner.
Her whimsical attitude makes her a great pick for a dating Examiner in the Old Pueblo. Ryn says she chose the topic for Examiner because, “I’ve had so many horrible relationships.”
She says that with a laugh and admits, “I’m finally in my first successful relationship,”
In this case, the relationship has already lasted a year and a half which by most standards qualifies it as a winner. Ryn says that she and her beau like off-beat dates.
“There’s a lot of fun stuff to do in Tucson,”
Indeed, there is and if you are ever lacking for date ideas, all you need to do is check out her articles under the lifestyle tab at the top of the Examiner page. Her articles have included suggestions on kooky dates, singles hot spots, top summer movie dates, gardening and barbecue dates and her all time favorite: Top 10 signs your guy is a geek .
When she isn’t dispensing dating tips, Ryn keeps herself busy with her artwork and other writing projects. The former Tucson Citizen writer left the online version in December and finds she likes the freedom of writing for glowbass.com. Although she doesn’t remember how she heard about glowbass.com she enjoys her topic because, “I like adding my personal insight.”
Originally from Troy, Michigan, Ryn moved to New York when she was eighteen years old and has lived and worked in New York, New Mexico and Oregon before moving to Tucson in 2006.
“I can’t do winters anymore,” she says, explaining her decision to come to Tucson.
As a self-employed artist, Ryn has her own website, blog and online store where art lovers can go to order her artwork. If online shopping is not your thing, you can purchase her work at Bohemia on Broadway, PopCycle on 4th Avenue or a gallery at the corner of Grant and Campbell.
And if the writing and art isn’t enough to occupy her time, she also has a weekly radio show that streams online on FM in Hudson Valley, New York. You can hear it every Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. (Tucson time); it is called Rynski’s Shattered Reality. To download a past show, click here. You can also find more of Ryn; her weekly column and radio announcements run on Tucson Weekly’s blog ‘The Range’.
When considering story ideas, Ryn sometimes looks to her beloved dogs for inspiration.
“Animals can teach you so much,” she says.
Her 5 year old dog Sawyer, who looks like a wolf, and Phoebe an older dog that looks like a battering ram provide her with lots of love when she advises others on the sometimes difficult road of dating adventures.
