President Obama gave an uplifting and inspiring speech last night in Tucson, at the memorial ceremony for the victims and heroes of the tragedy. Obama’s words were meant to soothe the helplessness and anger Americans were experiencing due to the killings. In one segment of the speech, he attempted to show how we need to approach solutions to the problem of a madman acting on his own.
“The loss of these wonderful people should make every one of us strive to be better in our private lives – to be better friends and neighbors, co-workers and parents. And if, as has been discussed in recent days, their deaths help usher in more civility in our public discourse, let’s remember that it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy, and it did not, but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation, in a way that would make them proud”
~ President Barack Obama
… because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation…
Apparently the liberal Arkansas media didn’t get the memo from Washington.
America is on the road to healing, and we cannot continue using the blood of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, nine year-old Christina Taylor Green and five others to mislead the public to form completely false emotional opinions. But a liberal blogger in Little Rock (who I refuse to name or link to) continues to mislead the public about Arizona’s gun laws and these laws’ responsibility in the cause of the terrible Tucson happening.
Open carry laws in Arizona did not cause six people’s deaths in Arizona. However, the media in Little Rock chooses to employ an “uncivil and dishonest public discourse”, using fear tactics to keep our Second Amendment rights from us. Passing the Defensive Carry Restoration Act (DCRA) will allow Arkansas citizens to defend themselves from crazies akin to Jared Loughner, not create them.
Deceit about open carry, however, is not limited to liberal bloggers. A strange story was published yesterday by ArkansasMatters.com (usually a competent member of the state media), reporting on a mysterious concealed carry law. The article is weird and mystifying, only because there is no record of such a law being proposed on the Arkansas legislature’s website, and no other media source is reporting on it. Supposedly (according to the news account), Representative Charlie Collins of Fayetteville has introduced a bill to allow concealed carry on campuses in Arkansas. The reporter, however, couldn’t resist taking their shots (pun intended) at Representative Denny Altes’s DCRA, HB 1051. The last paragraph from the story:
“Another bill by Ft. Smith representative Denny Altes would make Arkansas an “open carry” state. That’s sure to ignite vigorous debate in the wake of this week’s shooting of an Arkansas congresswoman. Arizona is an “open carry” state.”
Now, I am very much the ‘freshman’ writer, but I hope I never publish a story so poorly written and proofread. I must assume the writer was so excited about writing propaganda about open carry, they didn’t realize they were reporting on an Arkansas representative being shot.
The anti-Second Amendment Arkansas media is getting messy in their uncivil, dishonest public discourse about the DCRA.
