We all know how much we love to receive presents. When one is far away from home, and in harm’s way, getting a package which reconnects him/her to family and home is a morale boost especially if the package contains one of these international, prepaid phone cards! Gives the soldier one more reason to call the family!
The USO has sent millions of these care packages since 2003 ever since the idea first emerged in the Washington metropolitan area. And they make it really easy if you want to avail yourself of this service for your loved one: a $25 donation enables the USO to send your package with a personal note. All you have to do is fill an online form which asks for your details and any special instructions you wish to include. They do ask that you plan for a 4-6 week delay, so plan accordingly. The ‘stuffing parties’ take place at the Operation USO Care Package · 9455 Jackson Loop, Building 1415 · Ft. Belvoir, VA 22060-5141.
It’s not just the volunteers who do the stuffing: believe it or not, the President and the First Lady, members of Congress, celebrities and athletes have all ‘gotten down’ and done some stuffing for themselves. The packages contain a myriad of items that one might take for granted, but they do mean an awful lot to the service member receivng them: bars of soap, shampoo, prepaid phone cards, gum, sunscreen, magazines, – small items which go a long way.
Here are some testimonials from recipients of the USO Care package:
First I want to tell you how much this raised our morale. I overheard a few people saying it felt like Christmas all over again. – Jolly Rogers 103 Line Division, to Operation USO Care Package
I received one of your care packages from Operation USO Care Package. You have no idea how much it means to the Sailors at sea to know that people support what we do. – MC2 Matthew D. Leistikow, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower
It’s long overdue, but thank you and your organization for providing the care packages that I and my NCOIC received on our return from R&R leave at DFW. We appreciate your support! Jennifer Healy
I just wanted to take the time to tell you and your staff how much we appreciate the care packages handed out to us. They sure do come in handy with everything being useful. SFC Rodriguez
