Sunday River ski resort in Newry, near Bethel, Maine, has scheduled its 3rd Annual Dumont Cup competition for Friday and Saturday March 25 and 26, 2011. Named for world record holder and X Games Gold Medalist, Simon Dumont, the competition brings together top amateur and professional freestyle skiers from North America and Europe. This event is good for skiers and non-skiers.
Freestyle – not for everyone to do but great to watch
Freestyle skiing is the sort of thing that most people do not want to do on the slopes but it is fascinating stuff to watch. A recent chance to see the Freestyle World Cup competitions at Deer Valley in Park City Utah provided a thrilling introduction to the sport.
Some of the top rated freestyle skiers will mentor, ski with and judge the competition, which will take place over the course of two days. The event takes places on an especially designed course consisting of huge snow filled jumps and features that allow the competitions to virtually fly through the air and perform somersaults and flips before making graceful landings. The skills and panache of these competitors are outstanding and makes for great theater. The Dumont Cup competitions promise to provide plenty of excitement and thrills.
