According to the calendar, spring is officially here. While we wait for the weather to catch up (is that hail coming down in Newark?!), how about we get a vision of spring trends and great places to pick them up for a steal!
White, beige, and black has never been as fresh as they look this spring. The Golden Globe red carpet was full of champagne and beige colored dresses that the stars glittered brightly in, and at New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2011 ready to wear shows, Philip Lim and Chanel showed off ensembles in this sleek trio of colors. Frugal Fashionista has a run down of great neutral dresses, all under $100. Asos has this cream dress with neckline detailing – perfect for a spring weekend getaway – for around $35. For the same price, they also have this white kimono sleeved dress with black sash.
Wide and long trousers and skirts
The wide legged 70’s silhouette was seen on many runways and is a refreshing departure from the tight fitting skinny jean/jegging/legging look. Marc Jacobs showed off long and structured trousers and skirts, saying inspiration struck him while attending a party of Naomi Campbell’s house where all the girls were wearing long dresses”. While you may not be able to hobnob with the fashion elite, you can snag this throwback look. Overstock.com has these high waisted wide leg jeans on sale in either a light or medium wash that looks straight from the set of the original ‘Charlie’s Angels’. For long and structured skirts, visit ModCloth for this trench coat inspired skirt and this basic black swing skirt that will hopefully be back in stock by the time the weather breaks.
Halter neckline, bare shoulders
Anna Sui, Donna Karan, and Calvin Klein were just some of the ready to wear designers who showcased runway pieces that featured a halter neckline. This halter look was shown with long and sleek lines, all of which accentuates the bare shoulders. While last year the shoulders were exaggerated with padding and poofing, but this spring, let your shoulders be free by choosing a halter. Asos has this abstract checker board printed halter dress for under $45 as well as this adorable halter jumper (dont act like you dont know that jumpers are hot). For a twist on the halter collar, ModCloth has this sweet belted navy dress with a rounded halter neckline, but you will truly fall in love with this figure flattering halter dress in a spring inspired floral pattern.
Inspired by the beauty of spring flora and fauna, sweet floral prints are popping up everywhere. Emilio Pucci featured some on the ready to wear runway, and celebs have been showing up wearing small and big floral printed pieces. This print looks best when worn on a flowing and drapey dress or skirt, such as Forever 21’s flirty fuchsia floral printed dress, which is a steal for only $23! Add some shaping to your waist and stylish contrast to the feminine print with this weaved faux leather belt, only $8.
