A White House insider has come forward to report that the gun smuggling scandal that has engulfed the ATF will dog Barack Obama for the foreseeable future. The insider told blogger Mike Vanderboegh, who along with National Gun Rights Examiner Dan broke the story of the growing scandal at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), that the still-developing scenario at the Department of Justice is a story that has the potential of crippling the Administration.
Obama stated yesterday that there was wrongdoing but that he did not give his approval to the scheme to walk U.S. guns into Mexico where they were placed into the hands of drug cartels.
Vanderboegh, however, asked the poignant question, ‘But did Obama expresss his DIS-approval of the scheme?’
It has been common knowledge ever since Obama took the White House that liberals are chomping at the bits to pass more gun control legislation but feared to do so because of the clear mandate from voters that America’s restrictive gun laws be eased. All it would take, however, for the anti-gun minions to begin their push for gun restrictions is an incident…such as Tucson, or, U.S. guns winding up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels.
And this places Obama in a most precarious position. Should he now begin to push heavily for gun control using the excuse of U.S. guns-in-the-hands-of-drug-cartels argument, then it will be clear that the President is using a highly tainted scenario as a motive. He will be tarnished by ‘Project Gunwalker,’ as the scandal is known, by the mere mention of the cartels using American guns. And if he backs off pushing for more gun control, then question then becomes, why? Why suddenly back off when it seems the government has a clear motive for rolling out more restrictive firearms laws? Once again, the answer is ‘Project Gunwalker.’
The following is an excerpt of the communique from the White House insider:
President Obama is falling into a trap that is probably of his own making, or which was undertaken with his orders, by talking about Gunwalker. The reason is that every time he talks about Gunwalker, people will associate Gunwalker with him, exactly what he DOESN’T want. He should have offered up a minion, but he didn’t. That means the buck is gonna stop with him—figure he’s gonna get vicious? If people are going to be held accountable, which people? West Wing or ATF?
Interestingly, the insider goes further to point out that Obama would take a question about the scandal from a Mexican journalist but not an American reporter. Why?
Another curious note is the following observation from the insider:
This is proof of some combination of ineptitude (getting caught); not having a Plan B to handle something going awry (unskilled implementers); hubris (thinking that a bunch of pointy-headed intellectual knuckleheads could pull off a strategy so blatantly stupid); and what I’d call a Black Swan (from Nassim Taleb’s book of that name, “the highly expected not happening”, footnote on page xviii, meaning that President Obama and his retinue expected ATF Special Agents to carry the water, and they didn’t.) Instead, they disavowed the activity. Quite profound, in my view.
The bottom line is that no matter what is done or not done, no matter what is said or not said from here on out, the scandal is out in the open, people know about it in the U.S. and in Mexico, and the media, even the mainstream media, are onto it.
